The 10K

Last Saturday I ran a 10k with a few of my friends and it was a blast! Although it rained throughout the entire race, the temperature was perfect--about 66 degrees, neither too cold nor too hot. I was optimistically hoping to run the 6.2 miles in about 55 minutes. There were approximately 30,000 race participants (the largest 10k in the nation) and so it was tricky trying to maneuver through the sea of runners, with people passing each other all over the place. But after the first 1/4 mile or so, the pack broke up enough to allow me to find my pace and really start running. It was great and I finished the race in 54:10. The highlight, however, came at the end. To my surprise Nick and the boys showed up! Carson's and Nixan's soccer games had been cancelled due to the rain, so Nick was then able to load up the boys, drive to the race, walk a mile or so in the rain to the finish line celebrations and congratulate me. It was awesome to see my family at the finish...a great surprise!
