"I was right to wear...

...my Camo hat!!" That's what Carson told me after we got home from the Magic show we went to a couple days ago. Why? Well, the magician had asked for volunteers from the audience for various tricks throughout his show. At one point, the magician said, "I need another volunteer. A boy. Somebody who is not afraid of snakes or spiders. Someone who is brave!" Well, Carson's hand shot up. The magician saw him and said, "You there...in the Camouflage hat...you look tough...come on up!" So, it was all in the hat! I conceded that Carson was right...so much for trying to prove my point that the hat didn't match his outfit nor was it really appropriate for the theater. Oh well. It was worth it...Carson totally enjoyed his 2 minutes of fame (and slight embarrassment) on stage. Here's the re-cap:

1) Magician sets up the trick. He brings out a basket and sets it on the table. There's a snake inside the basket (gasp!). He asks the audience for silence, so as not to upset the snake. Then to Carson,"Here, tear a corner off this card...so you know which one is yours. Hold the torn piece."

2) He takes the marked card and carries it over to the table. Next, he explains all this stuff...blah, blah, blah (I was taking pictures...so not listening to the whole trick part). Next thing I know, he's telling Carson to walk quietly over to the table and knock loudly on the table three times--but watch out for the basket...and that Snake! This is where the need for a "brave" boy comes in, I guess. At this point, I have completely no idea what the trick was even supposed to be...

3) Just as Carson gives the third and final knock...out shoots the snake from the basket. Carson recoils in a matter of milliseconds! Then, whew...it was only a fake snake! (Scared him pretty good though! The audience too!) If you enlarge the following picture, you can see the fake snake in mid-air and the beginning of Carson's withdrawal...

4) Trick is over. Somehow the card comes back into play and the magician gives Carson the card back (who knows what was up with that whole charade?). So definitely more prank than magic...but Carson loved the attention! Here he is with his souvenir card:

And here's one of TJ...trying to get a glimpse of the stage:

And, finally, Nixan's comments from the start of the show:
"He is NOT a real magician!! Where's his black hat!?!?"
No doubt!! Come on magic man...

That is so funny! I love your re-cap! You might never have a good enough reason why he shouldn't wear his army hat again! What a fun magic show!

Great to see what a cute family you and Jamie have. It has been too long and I would love to catch up some time. I hope school is going well.

TOO CUTE!! I love it, When we were in Disneyland Aaric seriously spent TONS of money on this Silver Brief case full of magic tricks...It looks just like the ones the CIA agents bring to the bad guys full of cash....anyway HE LOVES magic tricks and now has years and years worth to entertain everyone at the family gatherings...he wants to go down as the old grandpa that always did magic!! I just laugh when I think about it...but the kids absolutely LOVE it and I have to admit I'm pretty bewildered at some of them, until we go to bed that night and I get the secret out of him (LOL I have my ways)
