The derby was special this year because it was Nixan's first! So Nick helped make two cars....well, one car and one truck. Carson decided he wanted a black truck and Nixan wanted a silver race car. The boys felt fairly confident, coming off of last year's big win.
This pine-wood derby stuff is a precision science...Here's Carson's truck on the scale, awaiting further tweaking:
The morning of the derby....start time 8am! Cousins Jerryck and Ky showed up for support...and to see how well our cars faired.

One of Carson's races....he won this heat....but one car lost a wheel and flew off the track! A cub scout nightmare!
We didn't take first place this year...but both cars had a strong showing, placing 4th and 6th.

YAY!! Way to go Carson and Nixan!!! The truck and car look AWESOME!! You know, that car looks like an Oregon Duck's car with the "O" on it. I think we should have bought you all Oregon T-shirts for Christmas!! You know......next year you should make some "Big-O Pit Crew" hats for the cheering section...and Nick!! You can rotate them through all the Arizona families.
One year Nathan did so bad, he actually yelled, "My car SUCKS!!" Oh dear!!! It was so bad that about 1/2 way through we started cheering for him to lose so he wouldn't break the streak....try to beat that!! How many can LOSE every race? That's pretty hard to do you know - Teehee.
What's crazy to me is that Nick is in shorts and Carson is wearing a summer shirt too. I forget that you're not freezing like we are!
Fun race! I didn't know Nick was the Cub Master. How fun to have two boys in there! Their cars look amazing! Way to go!
Yeah....jealous on those shorts!!!! How fun!!! I bet your boys just have a hoot with Nick (it's always something they will remember forever)!!! xoxoxox
