Off to a Great Start

A few months ago, my AWESOME father-in-law helped Nick make a "grow-box." On the outside it may look like a simple gardening pot, but inside it's engineered to maximize the phenomenon known as "capillary-action" (amazingly...I remembered what that was from my BYU days in the Benson building!). In a nutshell...the box is designed to keep the soil moist. But I'd prefer to call it our "Sophisticated Grow-Box with maximum Capillary-Action Technology." Anyways, Dad encouraged us to start our garden. A problem arose, however, on deciding what to plant. Tomatoes? So typical. Peas? Well, you'd have to plant a ton to get enough to really eat...plus there's all the work of harvesting. Squash? Well...that's typical too. In the end, I demanded we plant some cherry tomatoes and sugar snap peas (you don't have to shell those!) Nick wanted cucumbers and squash. So we needed more "Sophisticated Grow-Boxes with maximum Capillary-Action Technology." --cause there was no way I was going to till up all the soil in my small back-yard. So, a couple trips to Home-Depot (any home-improver/gardener knows it ALWAYS takes at least 2 trips for 1 project) and one FHE night planting seeds and now we have our first garden (small as it is). Here's a picture of my men...hard at work planting:

And now that it has been a couple weeks:

There's cucumbers, sugar-snap peas, yellow squash, and cherry tomatoes (left to right).
See those white pvc pipes sticking out of the soil? That's all part of the complex design of our "Sophisticated Grow-Boxes with maximum Capillary-Action Technology."
