The January Blues: S.A.D.

Seasonal Affective Disorder is basically seasonal depression. Depression in the winter. It's sad!

But I will confess that I suffer from this occasional S.A.D.ness almost every January. Why? Probably because the winter is really fun with the "sleigh bells ringing," and the "dashing through the snow," and the "silent nights." With all the joys and anticipation of Christmas and the holidays, it's no surprise that January always seems to arrive with, well, nothing. Sure, there's the whole "new year" of promise ahead...but honestly it is hard to get excited about goal setting when all you want to do is curl up on the couch with a blanket and hot chocolate. Not so productive...

But, in an effort to document some of the happenings of January, I publish this list:

1- TJ has decided he wants to get on the potty train. But don't be misled...he wants nothing to do with potty training.

2-Carson and Nixan are turning out to be pretty good little Basketball players.

3- Carson's report card: "I am blown away by Carson every day...I can always count on him to answer the 'challenging' questions...He has probably taught me as much as I have taught him."
-Ms. D

4- Nixan's report card: "Nixan has become very popular in class and makes friends very easily...I have actually had to get onto him for talking too much, which is unusual....He has become a very confident little boy" -Mrs. R This is a very good comment....I've been worried about Nixan being soooo shy. Maybe he's finally coming out of his shell?!

5- Our Odyssey needed a new battery. Goodbye $93.46, I will miss you.

6- We're getting a new mattress on Saturday! Thank goodness for a 10-yr warranty on what turned out to be a not-so-good-way-too-plush mattress. The "Cushion Firm" better be better!

7-Still waiting on Nick's TX Med. License....

8- Stoked about the upcoming Olympics! Now, that's something to look forward too! But, LOST is back on in Feb. too....and that's way more exciting for me! Come on ABC...let's wrap this LOST thing up good!

9-Can't believe I failed to mention the dems losing their steam-roller power with the MA election. Hallelujah!

10- Nick has had no over-night call this month, which has been awesome.

11-One last thing: A really thoughtful friend volunteered to watch our boys so that Nick and I could go out on a date. We went to see "Sherlock Holmes" and LOVED it! Thanks Alma! That was the first date we've been on in over a year!

Over a year without a date? Really? And I thought I had something to complain about. I'll keep my whining to a minimum now. Love your updates. Your boys are so so cute! How I wish my boys could pal around with yours. We miss your family and all those Y chromosomes. I love your newest family pictures. The green is fantastic and the background is so your boys. Awesome!

Bahhhaaa....so glad to hear I have a fellow "bear hibernator". I swear, I should seriously be hibernating right now!! ;) Although...you're probably still recovering from your Rocking New Year Eves party planning!! Wow!!

I seriously enjoyed the updates!! And, I am so happy that you were able to go on a DATE!! Bob and I were pleasantly surprised that we liked Sherlock Holmes. I don't know, the previews seemed kind of odd...but...you're right...it was fun! Those boys of yours are priceless!! I love you ALL!!

Love the S.A.D. definition. However I have no problem curling up on the couch and not being very productive. The Lord gave us seasons to enjoy them all!! I only leave the house for the gym (less in Jan. of course) and for the kids.

We miss you

We are so ready for LOST too! If you ever want to go out again, I'd watch the boys. They are so cute!

Carson and Nixan are awesome. I love the teachers comments. David wishes he lived closer to TJ, then they would be in a potty train wanna-be gang. I am so mad LOST has taken forever. So mad I told myself I wasn't going to watch it this year...that's the crazy thing...no matter what ABC does...of course I will watch every single episode! Blast.

Love this post. Don't be sad...Valentines Day is coming. Ugh (do you feel the same way I do about this holiday)...husband's forced to buy flowers and pretend to be romantic.

See, this is why January is the best month to have a baby. It's been all HAPPINESS around here!! and not too mention the best time of the year to stay inside and do nothing...except hold a precious baby. :0) I hope things turn around for you. And, I don't think Bryson will be potty training anytime soon...so I'm with you there.

Looks like you've had a pretty busy month despite the winter blues. It's nice that Carson and Nixan's teachers wrote such nice comments. I think there's room on my kids' report cards, but they are always blank... no time for teachers, I guess! Sorry about the car battery. I hate unexpected expenses.

I've always thought Carson was exceptional, ever since I looked over the pew at him in church and saw him adding double digit numbers back when he was like 4 or five? And one time when I was watching your kids he stayed upstairs and "studied" by copying words from a kid's dictionary.
And I hate winter too. I think exercise is the only thing that keeps my mood up during these dark winter days.
