Zoo Run

A few weeks ago I ran in the Ft. Worth Zoo Run. It is such a FUN race! The young women first told me about it last year...so I ran it with them last time. Because it was such a blast, running through and around the zoo (Hello Elephants!), I decided I had to do it again. I also figured it'd be good motivation for me to get back in shape after having Sage. Well, I was only kinda sorta motivated. I was motivated enough to do the 5K, far better than the 1 mile fun-run. But not sufficiently motivated to do the 10K. Of course, on race day, I immediately regretted not doing the 10K...but that's a whole other story. Anyways, this year did not disappoint. During the first mile I could hear the lions roaring...kinda scary...lit a little fire under me....but I couldn't really increase my pace because the narrow paths made sardines out of the runners...packed in super tight with no where to go. I didn't really want to think about what could happen if the lions got out....but then, as I looked at my fellow runners, I remembered that old saying: I don't have to outrun the lion, I just have to out run them! And, as for out-running people, I did pretty good...considering the nature of the race. But I was outrun for sure by about a million kids!! Seriously. Those fifth graders have wheels!!

Here I am warming up:

Haha! That sounds so fun! That would be the best motivation to run faster, to hear a lion roar. That is too funny. You are such a hot mom!

What a cool race! That is such a unique idea to have it thru the zoo. I think you should be proud of yourself for doing ANY running. And you look great!

Nice work, Jamie! Next year you'll have to take your own little 5th grader with you.
