A Couple of Firsts

Yesterday was Carson's first day of 1st grade! He was both excited and nervous about going to a new school. The night before he had a difficult time falling asleep. In the morning, he woke up about 45 minutes early. Then, at breakfast, he told me his stomach didn't feel good. I tried to calm his nerves a bit by telling him about the "butterflies" in his tummy. I drove him to school and walked with him to his classroom, watched him find his desk, and then said goodbye. As you can tell from the pictures...he was nervous! Things must have went well throughout the day though, because when Nick and I picked him up he was smiling and happy. We asked what he liked about school and, of course, he said recess. When we asked what he liked least, he said, "My classroom is small. And the Cafeteria is small." Both of which are true...we elected to send Carson to a charter school and it is indeed very small. There are less than 200 kids for grades K-12 (which was one of the reasons I really liked it! Love those small classes!). I think Carson was used to a "big" school for "big" kids...kids are so funny!

(At his desk, looking uneasy)

(After school, when we picked him up)

There was a first for Nixan yesterday too. His first bee sting! Ouch!!! He came running inside from the backyard...literally screaming at the top of his lungs. Nixan tends to be quite dramatic when it comes to his own injuries (especially if there is the slightest hint of blood). Had anyone else heard his screams...they'd have thought the kid was dying! :) When I tried to get out of him what had happened, I realized he had no idea. He thought a "bush" in the backyard poked him...there are, however, NO bushes in the backyard. Once I found the tiny spot on his arm, I knew it was a bee sting (we've had to kill quite a few hornet nests in the backyard). Poor Nixan! Nick went outside to investigate and, sure enough, found a hornet nest hidden in the fence. Then it was death to the hornets. Good riddance!

Oh my goodness...Carson sitting at his little desk made me sooo sad. With his brothers he looks so grown up!! But then, his little body sitting at that desk made me realize how innocent and young he still is. I absolutely love Carson!! Way to go big guy!!

I also felt so bad for Nixan...those things HURT for a long time!! I love his sad little face. Glad Nick found those hornets and killed them!! Does Nick have his bee medicine close by at all times?? He better!!

Carson looks so big! School can be a tough transition. Was he full-day in VA? I almost don't need to ask that- it seems like every state back east is. So sorry about Nixan. His face looks so devastated that he would get stung. I hope Nick was careful too. Oh, I noticed that your blogroll doesn't seem to work any more for our blog now that we went private. Sorry about that. I just didn't want months to pass and you to think I wasn't posting anymore!!
