One year ago...

Well, it has become a tradition at our home to go to the pumpkin patch every fall and pick out Halloween pumpkins. This year was no exception. However, this year was different...compared to Virginia. You see, pumpkin patches in Virginia were literally that--pumpkins growing on vines in patches. We took hayrides out to the fields, tromped through the rows and rows of growing pumpkins, ripped the ones we liked right off the vine, and took the hayride back (cause, let's face it....we were acres and acres away from the entrance and who could carry pumpkins that far?). Then we paid a mere $20 for "as many pumpkins as you can hold for 3 seconds," which normally amounted to 7 or so (Nick has long arms and strong muscles!). What a bargain! Well...I found a local pumpkin patch here in Texas that boasted of hayrides and photo ops. We went and had an awesome time. The boys loved all the blow-up slides and jump house. Treyson loved the little jail house. The playgrounds were great! There was no real hay-ride to speak of though and the pumpkins...well there were pumpkins. Placed nicely in rows. So we went to pick a few out for our jack-o-lanterns. We quickly realized that these nicely placed pumpkins came with a not-so-nice price tag. About $20 for 1 med/lg pumpkin!! YIKES!! There was no way we were going to pay that! So, we let the boys play, got some snow-cones, (yes...it was HOT!) took some pictures in the photo op area, and then went to Wal-Mart to get our pumpkins...for $3 a piece. It was different than expected but definitely a fun evening...we'll do it again next year for sure.

Oh I am sorry! I hate how expensive pumpkins are! But it is so fun to go to the patch. :0) The last two years we have spent about $20 on pumpkins - this year we got them out of my parents garden - even better they cost nothing! I think we will start a tradition of picking them out of the patch at my mom and dads....hmmm
I seriously LOVE the pictures!!Don't feel bad about not buying one of their over-priced organic pumpkins! We go every year to a pumpkin patch and I've managed to not buy a single pumpkin...I'm a Walmart fan myself :). Although...I am a sucker for the fresh apple cider though they have up here in apple country....I do pay a bunch for that....it's ohhhsoooo good!!
Oh reading your post made me miss the good old VA pumpkin patch so bad! it really was a unique "raw" pumpkin picking experience, good for you to at least find something fun for the kids....looks like they had a good time!
hey Jaimie!! Just found your blog on Barbies so I wanted to to say hello!!! I know what you mean about the pumpkin patches. When we lived in Jersey they had them with the vines and everything. I miss that!!!
Cute pictures- you got some really nice ones last year. What in the world are those rows of pumpkins?! They almost look like candy. Going to the pumpkin patch is such a perfect autumn family activity.
LOVE the pictures of your boys on your header!! Way cute!
I'm with you. There was NO way we were going to spend that kind of money. We left with the little kid ones for a $1 or something. Glad your kids found the maze and jump houses!
