We celebrated TJ's Fifth birthday last month! He was very excited to turn five and had been asking for gifts for months. Each time we entered a store that sold something cool, he'd ask, "Can I get that for my Birthday?" I think we had over a hundred items on his wish list....luckily we never actually wrote them down....otherwise he'd remember each thing, realize he didn't get it, and still want it! As it turned out, he was on a roller skates kick and so he REALLY wanted a pair. Nick kept wondering what in the world would make TJ want skates (it's not like any of the rest of us have them...and we certainly don't see people skating through the neighborhood!). It didn't take long to figure out that his best friend has a pair. Of course HE needs a pair too, right? The other thing he REALLY, REALLY wanted was a Wal-Mart cake (nasty, I know!). Whenever he's walked by their bakery, he checks out the cool cakes (meaning the ones with plastic toys on top). As luck would have it, the day we went to buy his cake, they didn't have ANY toy-topped cakes (my bad, should have called ahead). Fortunately TJ didn't seem to mind at all....he loved his blue striped cake! This 5 year old is easy to please!
Boys being boys:
Besides playing with his best friend, TJ also loves soccer. He's pretty good and was awarded the "Most Aggressive" player award by his coach. He can definitely bring some intensity when he wants to!
Here he is congratulating a teammate on scoring a goal:
And here he is, sticking it to the other team....look for it...
(Just kidding....the camera just caught TJ in a funny moment, but Nick and I still laugh every time we see this picture!)
Here's some pictures of TJ with his buddy. We took the kids to the zoo and they absolutely had a blast....with each other. I'm sure the zoo would have been fun without his friend, but man-oh-man, was it even BETTER for those boys to go together. You should have seen their faces when this tiger actually ROARED in their direction!
And here's our five year old on Kindergarten Registration day. He was soooo excited! Incidentally, if you look really closely, you can see the excess hairspray on his forehead. He styles his own hair now. Gosh he's growing up fast!
