While Carson did baseball this spring, Nixan and Treyson played basketball. I found a league that played 5-8 year olds in the same division. This was GREAT in that it allowed both boys to be on the same team (only one practice/game schedule for me to keep up with...sweet!). It was not-so-great in that there is a HUGE difference in size and ability between a 5yr old and an 8 yr old! It was quite comical to see the size difference between TJ and his teammates/opponents. Somewhat surprisingly though, TJ really didn't seem to notice himself....he just played his best every game. And he was quite the hustler too....sprinting down the court....back and forth. Not surprisingly, TJ rarely got the ball....but he ran hard anyway. In fact, it was so rare for TJ to get the ball that Nixan took it upon himself to make sure he passed to TJ as much as he could. Nixan was REALLY thoughtful to look for TJ. It helped that Nixan is quite the baller....he and his best friend led the team to victory week after week. Most of the time, Nixan would pass to TJ knowing that TJ would likely lose the ball or miss the shot. It wasn't until the last half of the final quarter of each game that Nixan would get super serious about winning and would only pass to TJ (or other less reliable teammates) if they had a substantial lead. That Nixan is, perhaps, too competitive. Scratch that. He IS too competitive! We're working on that...trying to teach the boys that playing sports is for FUN...not life and death!
Treyson, going for the shot:
A good example of size difference here:

Coming down the court, Nixan was an awesome dribbler!
He has this same focused look on his face in almost every picture I took of him dribbling! Haha!
Love this picture! Treyson is triple-teamed (who knows why!) and Nixan comes to the rescue!
